In The Prophecies he compiled his collection of major, long-term predictions. The first installment was published in 1555. The second, with 289 further prophetic verses, was printed in 1557. The third edition, with three hundred new quatrains, was reportedly printed in 1558, but now only survives as part of the omnibus edition that was published after his death in 1568. This version contains one unrhymed and 941 rhymed quatrains, grouped into nine sets of 100 and one of 42, called "Centuries".

  • Nostradamus, Interesting But Vague

    While this is a half decent book, it's sheer ambiguity makes me doubt it's authenticity. Most of the 'prophecies' are written in a way that typically allows them to be interpreted in any way the reader feels appropriate. There are numerous events that could be shoehorned into the guise of these predictions. Unfortunately, I feel Nostradamus has simply written prophecies that are designed to be subjectively interpreted, rather than objective facts about the future (ie genuine prophecies). If the latter verifiable facts had been included, this book would have been groundbreakingly extraordinary. Unfortunately they're not. Still, if vague and inconclusive ramblings about possible futures from the 1500's is your thing, give it a go. Just remember to keep some objectivity about you.
