Their interests require that they support the governing assumptions of state and private power. The propaganda model provokes outrage from journalists, editors and broadcasters, but twenty years after first publication, Manufacturing Consent remains the most important critique of the mass media.

    This book was necessary reading when first published but since then media ownership has concentrated even further and become an even more vital tool to get us all singing from the same corporate hymn sheet. Media literacy is crucial for everyone in the 21st century and this book is a must-read classic.
